Reading for Pleasure

Students at Saint Paul’s are seeing plenty of inspirational quotes around school from famous people who have promoted the importance and joy of reading.

Mrs  Savova, Librarian, said: “The aim of the poster campaign is to further develop an understanding of the pleasure of reading and how it can support learning and to support students in selecting books they will enjoy.”

“The posters were was designed to encourage and develop the students’ enjoyment of reading. We are encouraging students to borrow a book from the school library where there are many award winning books to choose from ranging from chillers and thrillers to war stories, drama and comedy.”

“The celebration of reading was designed to remind students to make reading a priority activity in their lives,” explained Mrs Evans, Head of English. “We want people to make reading a regular part of their routine . . . whether they’re reading solo or together with their classmates, parents, or friends. The campaign was designed to help students to develop a life-long love of reading. Students can borrow books from the library where the titles are carefully chosen to reflect all tastes and abilities. It is very important to instil in young people a need and desire to read. Research shows that teenagers who choose to pick up a book for pleasure are more likely to succeed in life.”
