Pupils Meet Commonwealth Gold Medallist < < BACK

A group of pupils from Saint Paul’s Catholic High School in Wythenshawe were delighted to get the opportunity to meet Commonwealth gold medallist sprinter and Great Britain champion, Leon Baptiste, when they recently attended a master class at Sportscity Athletics Arena.

The gold medallist was able to pass on advice and tips to the pupils at an event at Sportscity prior to the Manchester Great School Sprints competition.

“The pupils involved were a credit to the school and really gained great experience on the indoor track, coached by Leon Baptiste,” explained Miss Laura Wild, Head of PE at Saint Paul’s. “All our pupils worked extremely hard to improve technique, securing many 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in their heats against many schools across the Manchester area.”

Miss Wild added:  “Leon Baptiste gave a great talk including some valuable ideas on how the pupils could sprint faster. He encouraged and inspired our pupils to set ambitious personal goals and explained that it’s all about being smooth, relaxed and thinking positively.”

“It was a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to receive advice from someone who has achieved so much,” commented Mrs Fiona Minshall, Head Teacher at Saint Paul’s. “We are all very grateful that Leon Baptiste made the time to speak to and listen to our pupils. He provided much encouragement and inspiration.”
