Competition fever swept through Saint Paul’s as staff took part in a literacy themed bake-off! Teachers went head to head recently to create the most scrumptious and eye-catching cakes they could in the "Great Saint Paul’s Literacy Bake Off".
At the end of the Bake Off, the cakes were raffled off; all money raised on the day went to buy new books for the school which is keen to promote a reading culture and get more and more pupils engaged in reading.
There was a tie for first place from Mrs Jackie Fagan with Penguin ‘The Lost Girl’ and Mrs Helen Farrar with ‘Cinderella’.
Ms Laura Huddleston from Saint Paul’s said: “The Literacy Bake Off was a wonderful fun event which revealed some exceptional talent among the staff. The cakes which were entered looked amazing and were delicious too. The competition was followed by a mammoth cake raffle so we all got to sample the cakes.”
“The Bake Off was great fun, everyone threw themselves enthusiastically into the event and there were some stunning cakes presented to the judges’ table,” commented Mrs Fiona Minshall, Head Teacher at Saint Paul’s. “This was just one of our initiatives to raise money to buy extra books for the school. We want to develop the pupils’ enjoyment of and passion for reading. We want to encourage the pupils to read not just in lessons but also for pleasure becoming keen and happy readers.”
