St Anthony’s Church, Wythenshawe hosted a Christmas Mass for staff and pupils from Saint Paul’s. All those from the school joined together to celebrate Christmas, the Mass included traditional Christmas carols and an Advent themed liturgy.
The theme of the Mass was 'No Room at the Inn' and a link was made with the current refugee crisis and the desperate situations suffered by many people.
The international focus continued with the Prayers of the Faithful, these were read by pupils in their first language; which included, French, Italian, Portuguese and Polish.
Food that had been collected during the school Advent campaign was brought forward during the Offertory Procession. This was later taken to The Well Spring Centre in Stockport to support homeless and disadvantaged people.
“It was a lovely Mass; all the staff and pupils joined together to reflect, pray and sing some favourite Christmas carols,” explained Mrs Lisa Baillie, Assistant Headteacher at Saint Paul’s. “It was wonderful to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas all together in such a beautiful setting. It felt like we were going to raise the roof with the magnificent sound of the voices filling the church!”
“It’s heart-warming to see the effort and enthusiasm of the pupils and for them to share such a special festive event with their friends and teachers. Several of the pupils commented on how much they’d enjoyed it.”
Deputy Headteacher, Miss Tina Wilkinson, said: “It brought us together as a school and we were able to celebrate the important meaning and messages of Christmas. The service was wonderfully uplifting and the atmosphere was magical.”
