A group of students from Saint Paul’s were able to gain an insight into what college life is like when they took part in Taster Days organised by Xaverian College, Loreto College and Manchester College in Manchester. This provided them with the opportunity to learn more about the colleges and the courses offered there.
The Taster Days were aimed at Year 10 students who are considering their options after finishing school. The students were able to discover more about the courses which are available at the colleges and learn about the skills and qualifications they would need to secure a place on these courses.
The students looked at the range of subjects available including science, art and humanities and were able to get involved with some hands-on activities.
“Taster days are designed to provide the students with a better idea of what college is really like, the different types of subjects that can be studied, the buildings, the atmosphere and information about the opportunities available to them in the future.,” commented Mr Chris Fannon at Saint Paul’s. “Our students really benefitted from the time spent at the colleges and they had plenty of thoughts to take away.”
Mr Fannon added “As well as talking to the lecturers, they also met several college students who were keen to share their enthusiasm and passion for their subjects with our students and were happy to answer questions about their own college life in a very friendly way.”
Mr Alex Hren, Head Teacher, said: “The Taster Days provided our students with an excellent introduction to the sixth form teaching and learning environment as well as the diverse range of courses that are on offer. We hope that this will inspire them to invest extra effort in their learning and give them some ideas about the opportunities available once they leave Saint Paul’s.”
