Closure of Newall Green High School

We have been informed by Manchester City Council that the Prospere Learning Trust has made an application to the Regional School Commissioner to close Newall Green High School with effect from the end of the current academic year (other than for the current Year 10s who will continue to be educated at Newall Green until they have completed their GCSEs in June 2021). Following this application, the Secretary of State has now announced his decision to proceed to closure, which means the Trust will enter into a 4-week listening with effect from 14th January 2019. The purpose of this listening period is to provide stakeholders and interested parties with information as to why the school is closing and how it is proposed the closure process will operate. The listening period is an opportunity for stakeholders and interested parties to submit their views on how the school closure process can be best managed.

At this difficult time for all those involved, the Wythenshawe Catholic Academy Trust will keep students, their families and the staff in their thoughts.

We do expect that some pupils from Newall Green will apply for a place at Saint Paul’s. We will work closely with Newall Green and Manchester City Council to ensure a positive transition for any student moving to our school.

We will ensure that this does not impact on any of our existing students.
