Performing Arts

Intent Statement

All students access high quality Performing Arts teaching, that centres around the National Curriculum and content from wider research and study. They will learn to experience the wider world, building empathy and understanding. Students develop skills which promote social mobility and enable them to effectively navigate the world with creativity and resilience.
Our Performing Arts curriculum strives to make every child have an appreciation of the Performing Arts, including Drama and Music. Our curriculum is dedicated to ensuring pupils develop socially, emotionally, and skilfully through both independent work and ensemble skills.

At KS3 pupils cover a range of skills and techniques that graduates’ knowledge and skills to best prepare them for further study at GCSE and future careers, including those specifically within the Performing Arts industry.
The intent of our KS3 Drama curriculum is to allow students to plan, perform, review and evaluate across a range of historical periods, genres and styles. Our curriculum also ensures that students will have a better understanding, through the process of creating drama, of different social issues, relationships, cultures, and historically significant moments.

The intent of our KS3 Music curriculum is to allow students to develop an appreciation of a variety of musical genres and styles. They will acquire a range of instrumental and vocal skills and learn the resilience to practise, perform and review. They will also explore the role of music technology and compositional skills. Our music lessons are rooted in the core content addressed in the National Curriculum of singing, listening, performing, composing, and appraising.

Our KS4 curriculum builds on skills developed at KS3 and introduces students to a more vocational training which prepares them for the Performing Arts industry. Students have the opportunity to specialise at KS4 where there can focus on either Drama, Design, Music Performance or Music Technology. Students will also work towards responding to a professional commercial Performing Arts brief.
