Year 10 Work Experience – Feedback

The Year 10 Work Experience placements prepare the students for the transition from education to work and enable them to gain an insight into working life. The work experience provides practice in making job applications and going for interviews and it gives students the opportunity to collect a portfolio of evidence which they can show prospective employers highlighting skills such as team working, motivation, problem solving and communication skills.

The students spent time on employers’ premises undertaking tasks and duties as an employee, gaining valuable work skills to assist them in their future career path.

We received some fantastic feedback from the employers including:

Wythenshawe Park

Both Ethan and Denzel were a credit to the school. Punctual, polite and their work ethic was amazing. Every task they were given they completed with enthusiasm. The tasks they undertook were;
Planting. Two brand new flower beds in front of Wythenshawe Hall (see pictures). For this they used spades , forks, rakes and trowels , learnt about tool safety and watering in the new plants . These beds will be on show to the public for our hall events.

Pruning. Cutting back and shaping one of the main hedgerows in the park. For these tasks they were introduced to secateurs, loppers and saws (with a safety talk beforehand). They learnt about overgrown and unwanted growth within a hedgerow and how to use each tool appropriately.

Painting. Learning the difference in paints and where to use them. They painted our tennis pavilion and planters and also the hall gates. For these tasks they also learnt about scrapers and wire brushes to ensure clean surfaces for painting.

Tree Identifications. For problem spotting and age, disease, virus problems within trees and plants within the park.

Park reports. In the van, on foot and on bicycle. Spotting pot holes , problems with fences, pathways etc.

Both the lads were a credit to your school and we wish them well for the future.

Beacon Medical Services Group

I just wanted to say again how well both Ayden and Kira were when completing their work experience.

Ayden was extremely polite, confident and each department took a real shine to him. He was enthusiastic for all tasks given to him. He said that he particularly enjoyed the Gastro & Endoscopy department. Ayden showed qualities that most adults do not have with his resilience given his life changing experience only a week prior.

Kira although she was quite shy was polite to all and we could see her confidence grow throughout the week. Her work was not only completed to a high standard, but She also managed to finish it quickly and efficiently.

Both will excel in what ever the choose to do next.

St Anthony’s RC Primary School

Cristiano, Miley, Maja, Scarlet – All did very well at Saint Anthony’s on their work experience. It was refreshing to see them taking work experience seriously and professionally.

The Birches

Evie – When I went into the Birches to Visit Evie, it was lunch time, and she was helping spoon feed a student their lunch. She was so gentle and patient with the young boy who was in the wheelchair.

Button Lane Primary School

Imogen – Imogen was a credit to the school and really flourished. She was offered and asked to come back for a second week of work experience!
