A group of students from Saint Paul’s Catholic High School recently returned from an unforgettable pilgrimage across Italy, where they explored some of the most sacred and historic sites of the Catholic faith. The journey began in the heart of Rome, where the group had the extraordinary opportunity to attend Mass at the iconic St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican.

One of the most memorable moments of the trip was witnessing the Papal address in St Peter’s Square. In a remarkable coincidence, the group also saw both the Pope and King Charles on consecutive days.

While in Rome, the students immersed themselves in the city’s rich cultural and religious heritage, visiting landmarks such as the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain, and the Spanish Steps. From there, the pilgrimage continued through Assisi, Loreto, San Giovanni Rotondo, and concluded in Naples.

Throughout the journey, the group visited the tombs of six saints, including the beloved St Francis of Assisi and the Church of the newly canonized St Carlo Acutis, a modern-day role model for young Catholics.

Reflecting on the experience, Mr Fannon, Deputy Head Teacher, shared:
“This pilgrimage was more than just a trip—it was a profound spiritual journey. Our students embraced every moment with open hearts and minds, and the memories they’ve made will stay with them for a lifetime. It’s not every day that young people get to walk in the footsteps of saints and witness the living history of our faith.”

The students returned home inspired and enriched, carrying with them not only souvenirs and photographs, but a deeper connection to their faith and a renewed sense of purpose.
