The Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Awards aim to empower young people; to support them as they learn new skills, overcome obstacles, and build confidence and resilience. Students frequently find that the challenging but fun DofE programmes can be life-changing.
The Duke of Edinburgh award is an extremely popular programme that has been successfully running at Saint Paul’s for several years. The award requires students to demonstrate high levels of commitment and cooperation in order to be successful, especially during the weekly participation in their physical, skill and volunteering activities, and their training for the expedition.

Mr Mawn commented: “The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a voluntary, non-competitive programme of activities, designed to offer students a personal and individual challenge. At Saint Paul’s we encourage students to develop their teamwork skills whilst also promoting the independence and resilience to complete each section successfully.”
“The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award was designed to challenge young people to attain standards of achievement and endeavour in a wide variety of active interests, to serve their communities, experience adventure and to develop and learn outside the classroom. The success of the award has contributed to the wider school community as many of our students choose to complete their sections on volunteering and skills with local charities and organisations, helping to give back to their community. Students have also been able to transfer new skills such as teamwork, organisation and timekeeping into their everyday way of working, which has had a hugely positive impact on their school life.”
