Year 7 students had the exciting opportunity to take part in a dynamic public speaking and storytelling workshop led by Andy Copps, a professional storyteller and public speaker. The session was designed to help students develop confidence, creativity, and communication skills through interactive activities.

The workshop focused on the art of storytelling—a powerful way to share ideas and inspire others. Students explored techniques to make their stories engaging, using the strength of their voice and expression. These activities not only supported literacy development but also encouraged imagination and collaboration.
Miss Savova, our school librarian, shared her thoughts:
“The students thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and were really engaged in the various activities. Andy introduced vocal exercises and taught them how to captivate an audience when speaking in public. He also guided them through storytelling tasks that emphasised both listening and speaking, offering practical advice on what to do—and what to avoid—when presenting.”

Two of the highlights were Andy’s resonating bowl and his model of a brain, which fascinated the students and added a unique element to the experience.

Mr Sharrock, English teacher and Literacy Lead, added:
“The workshop was highly interactive and participatory. The storytelling techniques Andy shared will help boost creativity, confidence, and collaboration among our students. His enthusiasm and expertise were truly motivational. We were impressed by the students’ eloquence and oracy skills—Andy was too!”

This inspiring session left students feeling more confident and equipped to express themselves effectively, both in and out of the classroom.
Thank you to Manchester Libraries for organising the visit.
