Saint Paul’s Community Spring Clean with Wythenshawe Waste Warriors

Saint Paul’s Catholic High School encourages a culture of responsibility and respect, and this spring our commitment to tackling litter extended beyond the school grounds and into the wider community.

As part of our ongoing environmental initiative, a group of enthusiastic Year 9 students took part in a community litter pick around the local area, supported by Mr Casey and Barney from the Wythenshawe Waste Warriors. Together, they spent the afternoon collecting rubbish, meeting local residents and learning more about the importance of caring for the environment.

Mrs Delaney, Assistant Headteacher, emphasised the values behind the project: “Respect is at the heart of the Saint Paul’s ethos. Activities like this don’t just clean our streets, they help our students develop a real sense of pride in the community they belong to.”

The response from residents was overwhelmingly positive. Many people stopped to thank the students and several even contacted the school afterwards to express their appreciation.

We were delighted to receive the following message from Bernard Beswick (Barney) from Wythenshawe Waste Warriors:

“Dear Mr Whiteside – I would like to thank the staff and pupils who joined the recent litter pick as part of The Great British Spring Clean 2026. As usual the organisation on the part of school and behaviour of the pupils was exemplary. Please pass my commendation to all involved.”

Mr Casey, Pastoral Assistant, shared his thoughts: “The feedback has been incredible. Residents told us how impressed they were, not just with the effort, but with how polite, friendly and considerate our students were. It’s wonderful to see young people making such a visible difference.”

Headteacher Mr Whiteside added: “Raising awareness about littering and discussing its impact on our environment is essential. Our students are passionate about protecting the planet and projects like this give them the chance to turn that passion into real action.”

The Spring Clean illustrates Saint Paul’s ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility and community engagement and our students are already looking forward to future opportunities to support and improve the local area.
