A group of our students were recently invited to Manchester to take part in a BBC live debate exploring the future of social media and the possibility of an upcoming ban. The discussion was broadcast live across BBC television, BBC iPlayer, and YouTube, giving our students an exciting opportunity to share their views on a national platform.

The BBC selected 14 students in total, choosing representatives from each year group (Years 7–11). Each student was chosen for their confidence, insight and willingness to speak openly about their experiences with social media, both positive and negative.

During the debate, students explored a range of important themes, including:
Addiction and endless scrolling
The supportive communities and connections social media can create
Exposure to inappropriate or harmful content

Our students spoke thoughtfully and passionately, offering fresh perspectives on an issue that affects young people every day. We are incredibly proud of the maturity, honesty, and confidence they demonstrated throughout the event.
