Art Award for Saint Paul’s Ex-Pupil

An ex-pupil of Saint Paul’s was presented with an Arts Award based on his GCSE artwork.

We are very proud of our ex-pupil, Harry Keita, who was presented with a Mama Toro Arts Award based on his 2018 GCSE artwork.

In his GCSE Light and Dark externally set assignment, Harry focused on self-portraiture and his own identity through a wide range of media and processes.

Miss Rebecca Coyle, Art teacher, commented: “Harry excelled in his GCSE coursework which was a celebration of our African project. The award and gift from Mama Toro acknowledge his achievement. Also Harry’s work was featured in an exhibition at Marple Library to celebrate Black History Month.

Harry was so enthusiastic and positive with his artwork. He attended clubs and took work home. His skills and confidence grew as the course progressed and he produced the most outstanding self-portrait in his exam and his development work is beautiful too. He is a model to his peers that hard work, self-belief and resilience pay off. “

Mr Alex Hren, Headteacher, said: “We are extremely proud of Harry and delighted that his artistic talents have been recognised. His work is a pure delight to view, you can tell that he enjoyed the assignment by the exuberance of the artwork. Well done Harry!”
