Storytelling Workshop with Andy Copps

Students from Year 7 and Year 8 participated in an engaging workshop focused on storytelling. Led by professional storyteller and speaker Andy Copps, the session offered students the opportunity to develop their communication skills through interactive exercises.

Andy Copps performed his “Head and Tails” show for our Year 7 and Year 8 New Horizons groups. This interactive storytelling session featured Southern African animal stories, uniquely presented with audience participation and interaction throughout. The show was designed to be inclusive, ensuring that all students enjoyed it. Even those initially reluctant to participate were keen to join in by the end.

A strong message of caring for our natural world was conveyed through the performance, which utilised common household items and recycled materials for interactive props.

The workshop highlighted the power of storytelling as a compelling way to share ideas. It also served as a valuable tool to support students’ literacy, creativity, and confidence in speaking.

Miss Savova, the school Librarian, shared her thoughts on the experience:

“The students thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and were fully engaged in the activities. Andy’s storytelling brought the stories to life in a way that captivated everyone.”

Mr. Sharrock, English teacher and Literacy Lead, also praised the session:

“The workshop was built around interaction and participation. The storytelling techniques Andy introduced will help boost our students’ creativity and confidence. It also encouraged collaboration and supported their overall well-being. Andy’s enthusiasm and expertise were truly inspiring.”

Andy Copps is a professional storyteller whose work emphasises the importance of storytelling in education and personal development.

We are extremely grateful to Manchester Libraries who arranged the visit.
